Smart Stoplight App for the Visually Impaired

Helping users cross streets with confidence.

This app is designed to assist blind and visually impaired individuals at traffic intersections by turning complex surroundings into simple, accessible guidance.

Audio support that guides the way.

Using voice-over features, the app describes the current traffic situation, helping users understand their environment and cross safely with real-time audio cues.

Quick and secure access.

The onboarding flow features three intuitive screens that guide new users step by step.
Simple language and supportive visuals make the experience accessible to a wide range of users.

A smart traffic companion.

At its core, the app functions as a digital version of the stoplight, detecting the crossing status and translating it into sound and vibration feedback.

Customizable and inclusive experience.

Users can adjust voice-over, volume, alert type (audio or vibration), and choose between light or dark mode, making the experience adaptable to individual needs.

Accessible design brought to life.

The high-fidelity screens reflect the final visual direction of the app: high-contrast color palettes, clean and readable layouts, intuitive controls, and large touch zones. Every screen is tested for accessibility, providing a seamless experience across all devices.

Designed for clarity, contrast, and comfort.

The interface uses high-contrast color combinations, large typography, and oversized buttons; all optimized for users with visual impairments, ensuring clarity and ease of interaction.

This is a group project for Usable Design.

Made by Rebecca, Shadé, Douwe, and Julia.

My design philosophy

I believe design should be clear, intuitive, and user-centered. My goal is to create digital experiences that not only look refined but also feel effortless to use. Every detail serves a purpose, shaped by research, guided by empathy, and refined through iteration. For me, good design happens where usability and aesthetics meet.
