Designing an Educational AR App

Making history fun and interactive for young students.

This app is built to teach history to 7th and 8th grade students through an engaging, game-like experience, using AR technology, challenges, and rewards.

Gamified content that keeps students curious.

Students learn historical facts and events by completing quests, answering questions, and unlocking new levels, all while staying engaged through interactive storytelling.

Motivation through progress.

The onboarding flow features three intuitive screens that guide new users step by step.
Simple language and supportive visuals make the experience accessible to a wide range of users.

Local learning, global context.

The app detects the user’s environment and offers historical questions or facts related to real landmarks nearby; creating a personal and immersive learning experience.

Designed with middle school students in mind.

The interface is colorful, dynamic, and simple to navigate; tested for comprehension and usability with the target age group to ensure clarity and engagement.

Playful visuals that match a gaming experience.

The style combines familiar game design elements, avatars, icons, progress bars, with a structured, readable layout. Colors are bold, type is clear, and interactions are easy to follow.

This is a group project for Context Aware Design.

Made by Rebecca, Jashwan, Jané, Naima, and Maria.

My design philosophy

I believe design should be clear, intuitive, and user-centered. My goal is to create digital experiences that not only look refined but also feel effortless to use. Every detail serves a purpose, shaped by research, guided by empathy, and refined through iteration. For me, good design happens where usability and aesthetics meet.

Each lesson is tied to in-game progress: players earn rewards, upgrade their characters, and use AR to bring historic scenes to life, right in their surroundings.
